Fresno Used Cars For Sale

Fresno Used Cars

While Plymouth stopped making cars in 2001, they have a rich and varied history in the US auto market. They were founded in 1928 as the Plymouth Motor Corporation, a division of Chrysler corporation. In 1929, the first Plymouth was released to the public. While that first car was based on a Chrysler design, it had a lot of its own style. If you ask your grandparents, they may remember seeing them everywhere in Fresno.

In the 1930s, innovations like rubber engine mounts let Plymouth cruise into third place for auto sales for most of this decade. They didn't have as many innovations in the 40s and 50s, but they continued to be a very popular brand of car. Starting in the 1960s, with the birth of the age of the muscle car, models like the  Barracuda put Plymouth back on the map. The 60s and 70s brought forth a couple other popular models and the immensely popular 426 Hemi V8 engine.

As with other car companies, the gas crisis of the 1970s had an effect on sales of Plymouth, especially in cities like Fresno. Some people still bought the cars, but the marketplace for automobiles was shifting dramatically. Plymouth came out with new cars in the 80s, but they couldn't regain the popularity the brand had in the decades before. The 1990s saw more changes to their lineup of vehicles, but it wasn't enough to save them. The last Plymouth vehicles were made in 2001.
